Noah gets his reward, but what about Deng?

Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau is happy for Joakim Noah, who was named to the NBA All-Defensive second team announced Monday.
But there’s no defense for leaving Luol Deng off the All-Defensive first team, Thibodeau said.
“In my eyes, Luol deserves to be first team,’’ said Thibodeau, surprised that even Derrick Rose, who narrowly missed joining Noah on the second team, got more votes from the league’s 30 coaches than Deng.
“Joakim has played well, and Derrick has certainly improved a lot. But to me, Luol’s an all-league defender.’’

The hysteria surrounding the possible return of the NHL to Winnipeg has reached fever pitch and the rumour mill is working overtime to churn out the latest speculation.
The hottest rumour making its way around the streets and sports bars of Winnipeg and around the world on Twitter this week is that the announcement of a team returning to the city will come on Friday. In fact, the story goes, Winnipeg police and the city are already planning to cordon off Portage and Main for the announcement and the ensuing celebration.
Could be the Phoenix Coyotes or the Atlanta Thrashers

Former NHL tough guy Donald Brashear ponders mixed martial arts

 

Just how tough is Donald Brashear? We might find out, because the former NHL forward and enforcer is preparing to do combat in mixed martial arts.
Brashear, 39, must be licensed in Quebec before he can take part in a sanctioned match, but his credentials from hockey show he's no shrinking violet. In 1,025 games split among the Montreal Canadiens, Vancouver Canucks, Philadelphia Flyers, Washington Capitals and New York Rangers from 1993-2010, Brashear had 2,634 penalty minutes and built a reputation among NHL enforcers.

Southern California reinstates coach Kevin O'Neill after suspension

 

The University of Southern California has reinstated men's basketball coach Kevin O'Neill on Sunday, just days after he was suspended for an altercation with a fan at a Los Angeles hotel.
"Effective immediately, I am reinstating Kevin O'Neill as our men's basketball head coach," USC athletics director Pat Haden said in a statement on the school's web site. "Coach O'Neill and I have talked numerous times these past few days. He has continued to express his regret and embarrassment over the incident that led to his suspension ...
